Tutorboard vs Writeboard

Both are whiteboards built for tutors by tutors, and they are more alike than not. The honest split is this: Writeboard is the better buy if you want a free tier or teach a few students across many tutors. We are the better buy if you teach from a browser, hit school networks, or want nothing metered.

We make Tutorboard. Prices below were taken from Writeboard's own pricing page in October 2026 and will go out of date; check them before you decide.

Read that honestly. Their entry price is lower than our Premium and they have a free tier we do not. If budget is the deciding factor and two students is enough, they win on price and it is not close.

Where Writeboard is better

  • A genuinely free tier. Two students, for as long as you like. We ask for a card after fourteen days.
  • Cheaper to start. £5–6 a month against our £9.99 for the browser-capable plan.
  • Per-student team pricing suits sparse agencies. Ten tutors with four students each costs far less on their model than ours.
  • Marking on the page, and offline. Both shipped there. Ours are being built and are not here yet.

Where we are better

  • Nothing is metered. No storage cap, no page cap, no recording cap, no per-session charge. Their 5 GB is a real ceiling for a tutor who records lessons.
  • Unlimited students on Premium. Theirs caps at 20 on the tutor plan and 40 above it.
  • School and blocked networks. When a firewall refuses the usual connection the lesson moves to plain HTTPS and the call is relayed, rather than the board simply not moving.
  • Real exam calculators. A ClassWiz with every app, and an fx-CG50 graphing calculator, shared on screen.
  • Video in the same window. You do not need Zoom running alongside.
  • Lesson reports from the lesson itself, with transcription on your own Mac so the audio never leaves it.
  • Per-tutor team pricing, so a growing student roll does not move the bill.

If you are still unsure, the trial is fourteen days with every feature and no student limit, and theirs is free for two students. Running one real lesson on each will tell you more than this page can.
